Simon Landolt, Head Guide, and founder of Roaring Skies Private Safaris, is a passionate young Field Guide and certified Walking Safari Guide (FGASA LV. 1 and KPSGA Bronze). After graduating with top grades from EcoTraining, a South African training school, Simon worked as a Safari Guide and guide trainer with Governor's Camp Collection in the Maasai Mara, Naivasha and Laikipia (Kenya). Simon's passion and thirst for knowledge regarding wildlife and the natural habitats are limitless: From the largest mammals, to tiny or huge birds, to the smaller reptiles, amphibians and insects, he admires and studies them all. He knows how to share his knowledge and passion with our guests in a unique and entertaining way.

With more than 600 different bird species in his "Lifelist", Simon is a passionate birder and keeps records of his bird encounters in Kenya and around the world. Simon is also on the board of a regional ornithological society in Schaffhausen, Switzerland and loves his personal research about our avian companions.

Furthermore, Simon is very passionate about his nature photography (see Instagram and gallery) and loves to plan and execute photographic safaris. His very good knowledge of photography and his knowledge of the areas of operation are a great advantage for all photographers and future guests. Simon knows exactly, where the sought-after animals, that we want to get in front of our lenses, might hide. Furthermore, he is able read their behaviour and therefore might even be able to predict their next moves so that we can position our vehicle in the best possible way in order to get the best shot.

A privately guided safari is not necessarily just about animals. Of course, this depends on the wishes and ideas of our guests, but usually the cultural aspect of a region, especially in a country like Kenya, is a very important and interesting part of the experience. Simon himself is very interested in the Kenyan tribes, their cultures and ways of life, and knows a lot about their various traditions. This is where Simon's contacts come into play, and with the help of friends and acquaintances, we are able to highlight and explore these important cultural aspects.
